Jerry Peace is in real political trouble

Eighth Circuit Solicitor Jerry Peace has had his detractors over his years in office. WSPA television reported on how Peace’s office moved along DUI cases in a dishonorable way. Various groups have had a problem with how he deals with other crimes. Some even contend that Peace and his office play favorites with clients of certain attorneys in the circuit. There are rumors of law enforcement being disgruntled at how Peace does things.
So, it is no shock that Peace finds himself opposed for re-election. Ben Shealy was the first to step up to run against Jerry Peace for the Republican nomination for Solicitor of the Eighth Judicial Circuit, which includes Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens, and Newberry counties. But, it was the entrance of David Stumbo that made the race one to watch.
Stumbo, who is a native of the area, is a man with true law enforcement experience, in that he worked for two Attorneys General and for legendary Solicitor Donnie Meyers in Lexington County. Stumbo is not only a man who has put criminals away; he has taught other prosecutors how to do the same.
Stumbo comes across as a man sort of sick of what he sees going on in his home area and willing to move back and stand up to set it right. That takes real guts and a real commitment to do what is right.
That sort of commitment to do what is right, no matter what attorney is offended, seems to have been lost over the last seven years of the reign of Jerry Peace in the Eighth Circuit. The entrance of a guy like Stumbo in the race is refreshing for folks in that area who want someone who prosecutes for justice and knows how to do it.
Indeed, Stumbo’s decision to move back home and challenge the controversial reign of Jerry Peace makes the Eighth Solicitor’s race one to watch. It is a classic race. An entrenched incumbent, beset by rumors of impropriety, is pitted against a man who came back home bent on setting things right. Such a scenario is not a liberal or conservative affair. It is shaping up as a battle of what is right versus what is wrong. And, those in the know know that Mr. Stumbo is on the side of right and that Mr. Peace is the symbol of what is wrong in law enforcement in Abbeville, Greenwood, Laurens and Newberry counties.
Make no mistake, there are very well placed interests who want to keep Peace in his job. But, Stumbo presents a challenge like no other. Though they will not officially say so, there are real people with influence who are tired of Mr. Peace and how Mr. Peace does things. Mr. Stumbo, with his resume and earnest efforts, gives such folks a real choice in the Republican primary. They can either quietly or openly support a candidate who will actually do justice. As such, the antics of Jerry Peace have landed him in real political trouble. It is such a trouble that VUI sees Mr. Stumbo being sworn in as the Solicitor of the Eighth Circuit when all is said and done.

    "legendary"

That's a good way to describe that ol DUI offender and common drunk Donnie Meyers

If that's your boys idea of what a prosecutor should be

Then that is reason enough to vote against him

Joel/Mike why do you hide behind the former Governor of Alaska? You obviously hate McCarty, and frankly, he is an easy guy to hate. But, your hate clouds your judgment.

    Joel/Mike?

    Don't know him/them.

    Nor do I "hate" McCarty.

    I don't even know him.

I just find his insistence that he is some kind of "independent" amusing.

    He isn't alone however

A lot of Republican types play that game.

    As to my moniker

I really do want Sarah around foreve

I find her quite representative of today's Republican party

  4. Sarah, you miss the boat, sweetie on this guy. McCarty is a black and gay loving big education Democrat who did a con job on Republicans for years when he worked for RINO candidates. Now he tries to pass himself off as "retired" from politics and some kind of ball coach. You are right, he is not independent. He is a Democrat.

  5. Oh, and BTW, Jerry Peace should go. He is corrupt as most RINOs are. And, I will take a drunk Donnie Meyers over a sober Dick Hartpootlian any day if justice needs to be done. Dick is a yellow bellied liberal lapdog. Peace is a bought and paid for RINO!

    McCarty is a Democrat eh?

That's silly even for a Republican!

  7. Stumbo, really! He is just a stooge for Donnie Myers and Alan Wilson. Peace ticked them both off and they sent Stumbo to exact their revenge. Stumbo has never practiced in the Eighth Circuit. Instead he chose to leave the circuit and hitch his wagon to the folks around Columbia. He only returned to seek the office after those same people asked him to. Do you really want a Solicitor with only 6 years experience as an attorney and not a great deal of time prosecuting. Shealy has been practicing for 16 years, 11 of which are in the circuit. He has prosecuted in three of the four counties in the circuit as well as the thirteenth circuit. Peace needs to go but he needs to be replaced by the right person.

    1. This is not a fairy tale of the hero on the white horse arriving to save those in peril. This race is about 1)experience, 2)compassion, 3)honesty, and 4)being forthright to the public. I know this man Peace and peace is not what he has within his office for years. The staff is always cringing and walking on egg shells just to keep their jobs. And when he says he has an "open door", he uses that as a means to fire those who disagree with him on any matter. You may say what you want about Donnie Myers, but Peace is not far behind with his escapades. Stumbo is a very young attorney with only 6 years experience. Shealy has over 15 years experience, has supervised a staff, and prosecuted cases in both the Eighth Circuit and Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor's Offices. He is the better choice. A reverent, compassionate, and honest man for the people.

  8. Shealy or Stumbo. I will take either. Put a fork in Jerry Peace, he is done.

  9. Peace aka Townes Jones's boy, is as bad as them come when it comes to justice. I am afraid that Stumbo and Shealy will divide the vote against the crook. Either would be much better than Jerry and his crap.

  10. Be careful Mr. McCarty, Jerry Peace is vengeful and will use resources to get you.

  11. Jerry Peace has no chance of winning. It has been two years since the budget cuts and Peace has not called the three people he layed off back to work. The budget cut was not handled right just ask anybody and they will agree. The one person who was called back from the budget cut was because of Townes Jones. Shealy or Stumbo I will take either.

  12. Stumbo is an arrogant brat, and hasn't stayed in one job long enough to get the seat warm. I'm not familiar with the DUI dustup, but in the cases I am familiar with, Peace was aggressive and got the job done. If he must go, sounds like this Shealy fellow would be the best choice.

  13. Stumbo an arrogant brat? Really? He seems to me to be a man who, if elected, will stand for the people in the Eighth Circuit. He is a proven defender of the law, and this was shown when he worked in the Eleventh Circuit by him taking on more criminal cases than any other attorney in the office. This race needs to be about keeping families safe across the four counties, and Stumbo has proven that he can do that while he worked not only in the Eleventh Circuit, but also when he worked at the SC Attorney General's office fighting internet predators.

  14. Stumbo has a proven track record of fighting for justice, taking the lead on fighting Internet Predators under Attorney General McMaster. He took more criminals to trial than any other Attorney in the 11th Circuit when he was there. This race should be about keeping families safe by putting criminals behind bars and Stumbo has proven to be successful at doing so. Stumbo has had the courage to take tough cases to trial and win and that is what the 8th Circuit needs.

  15. Jerry Peace has NO regard for justice, he let my son's killer go with 4 months time for looking my 12 year old in the eyes and blowing him away!He told us that he had worked out a plea bargin with the murder's lawyer (who just happened to be in the house of reps) We said NO we wanted our day in court and justice for Dillon, he told us that it was his decision not ours and this was what he was going to do! I was floored, I asked WHY? He said he did not think there was enough evidence to convict! Well a lot of peole feel this was very WRONG! Chip Ruff told 4 different stories about what happened that day! He even laid the gun at my son's feet after he shot him, trying to make it look like Dillon shot himself, hard to do when they have defence wounds and 1st story he told was he was in the bathroom when it happened. He should be doing life instead of us having to look at him out smiling enjoying his life! Please get out and VOTE this crook out of office! We need someone who is about justice in this job!

I am very concerned that experts say Jerry Peace mishandled prosecuting a sexual predator like this man... it is scary we are depending on this man to keep criminals off our streets

The fact of the matter is that Jerry Peace has been a pretty good prosecutor. I have never heard of Stumbo and he does not seem to have a full resume.

Stumbo seems to have alot of answers for NOT having a ton of experience..DUI Myers Office hasn't been able to put a real dent in the Infamous Meth Triangle (Pelion, Gaston, Swansea) down there in Lexington. Myers is a numbers man..Poor folks were and may still be denied a pro-bono attorney even if they're sick and/or unemployed..The Feds have looked into Myers for other Civil Rights Violation. AND let's talk the DUI...It was in a county car in Asheville..He pled guilty after lying about the bottle of likker in the backseat..(wasn't HIS!)..His concession was to not take the county car partying/home anymore. They like that stuff in Lexington County..AND as far as bad checks, business is eager to rush the check to Myer's Court, giving the writer hardly any to zerp time to make it good so they and Myer's can collect TRIPLE the charges..(Myer's once used that unscrupulous company in Florida to collect). Many of these checks are BANK screw-ups not the customer's fault BUT Myer's is going to get HIS share of the money and call it JUS-TICE!!!

Plus, wasn't Alan Wilson being investigated for the same campaign fund fraud that caused Ken Ard to resign?. Guess it helps to have a US Senator as your relative eh?

I don't think Peace is necessarily the best, BUT given the Phillandering, Entertainment-Oriented PT Barnum of a sherrif here in Laurens County, Peace didn't have MUCH to work with (Poor evidence gathering shall we say)

Give Peace ANOTHER chance or vote for the DEM..We don't need Mister Ambitious (Stumbo)
